René Magritte, one of the great surrealists of the modern era, depicted an impossible defiance of natural laws, specifically gravity, through his painting ‘The Castle in the Pyrenees.’ This artwork showcases a massive rock defying gravity, upon which a castle is perched. It serves as a fitting allegory for today’s human condition, where we seek to connect the material with spiritual sublimity. Inspired by this, I created the Castle in the Sky as an homage to this concept.

근대의 위대한 초현실주의 작가인 르네 마그리트의 피레네의 성은 중력이라는 자연법칙을 거스르는 거대한 암석과 그 위에 자리잡은 성을 통해 존재할 수 없는 이율배반을 재현하였다. 이는 물질을 통해 정신적 숭고함에 닫고자 하는 오늘날의 인간상을 은유하기에 적절한 소재로 느껴졌고, 이를 오마주하여 천공의 성을 완성하였다.
